Ready for Recyclers: AARDA annual convention kicks off tomorrow

Edmonton, Alberta — The Alberta Auto Recyclers and Dismantlers Association annual convention kicks off tomorrow, on September 20, inside the West Edmonton Mall.

The annual conference will feature special events such as product demonstrations by ELV Select, heavy equipment demos and a tour of Aldon Auto Salvage’s yard in Lamont, Alta.

Impact Auto Auctions will host a live and silent auction on Saturday night. All proceeds from the auction will go toward sponsoring the Jack Cohen award, which will be presented on Saturday evening. Awarded to children of direct members of the AARDA, the scholarship is meant to assist in the pursuit of post-secondary schooling, apprenticeship opportunities, or training in their selected field. Established in 2017, the award honours Cohen, who began with the AARDA in 1988 as one of its first members. Cohen was very active within the industry, especially the AARDA until he passed away in 2017.

The AARDA will hold its annual general meeting on Saturday morning, where it will introduce a new member benefits program, a CAREC update and unveil an exciting new announcement about auto recycling standards.

This year’s auto convention will also serve to host the annual Auto Recyclers of Canada’s board of directors meeting. The all-day meeting will take place on Friday.

“Representatives from all parts of Canada will gather to talk about the future of the industry and association,” said Steve Fletcher, managing director of the ARC and executive director of the OARA. “Sandy Blalock, the executive director of the US-based ARA, will also be attending and participating in the ARC board meeting.”

The event will also feature a trade show with more than 20 exhibitors.

A negotiated room rate has been arranged at the Fantasyland Hotel at the West Edmonton Mall.
