Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island — March 12, 2014 — Dalbert and Tabitha Livingstone are co-owners of Island Auto Supply in Charlottetown, PEI. They recently invited readers of the Charlottetown Guardian for a video tour and examination of the process used to recycle vehicles.

In the video, Dalbert explains that when the car comes in, the pieces suitable for recycling are determined, and sorted from those which are scrap. All fluids are extracted and in-demand parts are removed and cleaned.

“Over 80 percent of vehicle parts are recycled in the process of extraction,” says Tabitha.

The video also discusses Island Auto Supply’s participation in the mercury Switch-Out program. Just one mercury switch can contaminate an entire lake, so it’s vital to make sure they are removed. The video goes in-depth, showing the holding area where cars are stored before becoming a part of the inventory.

Tabitha was profiled recently in the 2014 Canadian Auto Recyclers magazine where her role in the running of Island Auto Supply was highlighted. In addition to his work with Island Auto Supply, Dalbert also serves as the President of the Automotive Recyclers Association of Atlantic Canada (ARAAC). Island Auto Supply was founded by Dalbert’s grandfather, Harvey Livingstone in 1966.
