Toronto, Ontario — A GTA auto recycling facility is preparing to open its doors for a two-day firefighter training event.
The Markham Fire Department and the Markham Fire Extrication Team are co-hosting 2025 TERC Regional Vehicle Rescue Challenge at Standard Auto Wreckers on June 5 and 6.
The first day will feature a training symposium open to registered team members and individual participants, the symposium will feature specialized classes in advanced lifting underride incidents and extrication team development. The second day will involve the rescue challenge in which teams will compete in two distinct challenge pits. In the limited pit: competitors will only have access to hand and pneumatic tools. In the unlimited pit, they will have access to all rescue tools, including heavy hydraulic equipment.
Each team will have 20 minutes to safely extricate a live patient from a simulated vehicle collision. The scoring will reflect the team’s command structure, hazard and scene control, patient and rescuer safety and the techniques used during extrication.
