As the need for a global circular economy takes centre stage, federal governments are pressed to place greater accountability on businesses to process end-of-life vehicles (ELVs) responsibly. On April 28, 1999, the Recycling Council of Ontario (RCO) met with automotive manufacturers, dealers, dismantlers, scrap metal recyclers, the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, and the Ontario Ministry of Transportation. As part of the broader agenda of responsible vehicle recycling, they discussed minimizing Automobile Shredder Residue (ASR) from the recycling process, and effective recovery of fluids, rubber, plastics, copper, precious metals, and aluminum, among other commodities.
This culminated, in part, with the adoption of O. Reg. 85/16 in 2016, which finally obligated ELV recyclers in Ontario to process material safely and responsibly. This includes the removal of all automotive oils and greases, coolant, fuel, and windshield fluid. This was modelled after existing legislation adopted by Europe and Japan. In the U.S., Ford, General Motors, and Stellantis (formerly Fiat-Chrysler) established the U.S. Council for Automotive Research (USCAR), in part, to improve automotive recyclability. The U.S. is stressing the importance of increasing ELV recycling rates, and many U.S. stake holders are voluntarily meeting responsible recycling mandates to avoid the need to legislate restrictive laws. Responsible ELV recycling is clearly here in a big way. Gensco, a 100-year-old global recycling equipment supplier, recognizes that business owners struggle to maintain healthy profitability while adhering to the proper process of depolluting and dismantling ELVs.
In response, Gensco Equipment Inc. has partnered with industry leaders in ELV depollution and dismantling systems, to provide equipment that both saves time and generates revenue. Gensco offers equipment that recovers, fluid, copper, aluminum, plastic, rubber, and precious metals, quickly, safely and with ease.
State-of-the-art hydraulic lifts with drill drainage systems built-in, have been designed for the easy extraction, separation, and compliant storage of various auto fluids. Fluid quality can be assessed and either reused on-site or sold for revenue. Gensco also provides systems that are compatible with ramps and lifts that operations already have in place.
Gensco’s hydraulic clamping/tilting tables provide a safe and efficient means of extracting valuable parts from an ELV such as alternators, wire harnesses, and catalytic converters. Gensco provides the equipment to process these parts further and recover valuable copper, palladium, platinum, and rhodium. Tires can be separated from steel and aluminum rims. Aluminum separators will render the rim useless without compromising its structure so it can be sold as confirmed, pure aluminum. With the right equipment, Gensco offers a means to be compliant, responsible, and profitable all at once.
Having served the metal recycling industry for over 100 years, Gensco Equipment is in a unique position. Genso has learned a lot from serving customers for over four generations. Manufacturing partners are carefully chosen. Gensco looks for quality, innovation, and reliability. “Behind every machine is a relationship and an expectation from our customers, that we will back our products and provide a lifetime of support for them.”
Gensco places a high value on having parts on hand when you need them and the know-how to help in any situation.
