Thoughts on this year’s Mercury Switch Out program

Toronto Ontario–October 8 2010–The 2010 Switch Out contest is in full swing and auto recyclers from across Canada are entering by voicing their thoughts on participating in the Switch Out program and preventing automotive mercury pollution.

Here’s what a few have to say about what keeps them motivated to collect switches and why they participate in the program:

What keeps them motivated to collect switches: “We think about our children’s future to keep us motivated and diligent in collecting mercury switches.”

What they find most helpful or positive about Switch Out: “I like that the Switch Out program conducts itself in a very transparent way and helps to legitimize professional automotive recyclers.”

Brown’s Auto Salvage

Tim Brown

Why they participate in the Switch Out program: “Due to the high impact of possible mercury contamination its drastic effect on our water supply and food chain.”

Boston Auto Wreckers

Why they participate in the Switch Out program: “We would like to contribute whenever we can to make the environment a cleaner and safer one.”

What keeps them motivated to collect switches: “We try and collect as many as we can a year to surpass those amounts collected in the previous years. Also we remind ourselves daily that even if one switch is taken out it will still effect the environment.”

Advice for other businesses to recover mercury: “Even if one switch is taken out it will still make a difference. It does not take long usually under two minutes to remove most mercury switches so why not continue to help the environment.”

What they find most helpful or positive about Switch Out: “We as auto wreckers are sometimes perceived as not environmentally friendly. So being a part of such a program and getting the recognition for collecting the switches allows us to show customers that we do car.”

Why they participate in the Switch Out program: “To do the right thing. Without water we don’t live our kids don’t live and leaving a negative legacy just does not sit well with us.”

Advice for other businesses to recover mercury: “Make it like an egg hunt with a prize and teach your employees every car that you know that contains mercury.”
