Ottawa, Ontario -- July 4, 2011 -- The Tire Take Back Days event, organized by the Ontario Tire Stewardship (OTS) and the Ontario Automotive Recyclers Association (OARA), was a great success collecting 48,000 tires over two days and exceeding its charity fundraising goal, say the organizers.

The event, held on May 27 and 28, raised $123,725.36 for the Sunshine Foundation of Canada, which will use the money to fulfill the wishes of children with severe physical disabilities and life-threatening illnesses. This is well over the organizers’ goal of $100,000.

The number of tires collected increased over last year’s number of more than 50 percent. In fact, the number of tires collected would be taller than 24 CN Towers if stacked one on top of the other, says OARA.

Woodbeck Auto Parts in Stirling, ON won the province-wide competition to collect the most tires and raise the most money for charity by collecting 4,011 tires. As a reward, a ceremony will be held at Woodbeck on July 6 where representatives from OARA, OTS, and Liberty Tire will present a cheque to the Sunshine Foundation.
